Mixing Vicodin and Flexiril?

I went to my primary care physician yesterday for neck pain. My doc says I have a cervical (note I didn't say cervix) strain. While awaiting results of the x-ray, he prescribed me Flexirl for muscle relaxing. Today, I went to the dentist for pain in my tooth. The dentist says it is an abcessed tooth and needs to be pulled. She prescribed me vicodin. Is mixing the two OK. I told my dentist that I was flexiril, but she didn't seem to mind prescribing vicodin to me.

Mixing Vicodin and Flexiril?
As long as you did tell the dentist before that you were on Flexiril, then you should be ok. One is for pain, one is a muscle relaxer, so even though both are sedatives, they won't really have a multiplier effect. Your pharmacist should also know what all you are on so that he can tell you any possible interactions.

Feel better soon!
Reply:I would call the pharmacy and ask them. I do it all the time, they are a wealth of knowledge!
Reply:You can mix medications if you talk to your doctor first and verify that there would be no complications witht the two medicines. Sometimes mixing to medicines, even with good intentions, can have toxic and deadly side effects. Organs shutting down, coma, death. Be very very careful.
Reply:Don't take both genius, a pain med works for everything they are not target relievers. So either you take the vicodin one day and the other one the next, don't mix. The vicodin will help with your neck and tooth pain and same way with the Flexeril.
Reply:Yeah two different things it is OK. Man you are in rough shape. At least the vicodin will serve two purposes, neck and tooth.
Reply:Do it everyday. I take flexiril and lortab 7.5, for arthritis in my back.
Reply:You'll be alright. But both are sedatives. So make sure that you don't drive or anything. Definitely don't drink. Might want to stay at home and lay on the couch all day.
Reply:Yikes! Vicodin makes me puke, so if I took those two, I'd be puking in my sleep! My dentist prescribed Darvocet instead of Vicodin because of my past experience with it.

Your pharmacist should know whether the two shouldn't be mixed.

Best wishes!
Reply:You should be safe taking both. Space the doses out so that you don't take them at the same time. The Flexiril is a muscle relaxant and may give you a strange kind of floating feeling throughout your body. the Vicodin is to kill the pain that the abscess is causing. Did the dentist give you an antibiotic also. An abscess is an infection and should be treated as such.
Reply:Yes, it's OK. When in doubt, call your pharmacist. They know more than many doctors, when it comes to meds. :)
Reply:I would procede cautiously with that combination. Both cause sedation. Check with your primary care physician to be sure.
Reply:Yes, it's totally fine because doctors often prescribe both at the same time for certain types of pain. I am prescribes a muscle relaxer and vicodin at the same time.
