Why don't we accept that heart can be multifunctional like our eyes, tongue and hands?

Eyes can see, wink, sleep, tongue can taste, clean teeth, tease, useful for speaking and hands can write, form a fist at fight, hold, touch. Since visible organs can perform more than a primary function,it is possible for heart to perform more than one purpose in the body.

Why don't we accept that heart can be multifunctional like our eyes, tongue and hands?
I think many people do feel that their heart is an indicator of emotions like joy, fear, love, anticipation, gloom, etc. And certainly medicine has found a correlation between long-term stress and heart condition. How the heart detects these conditions, what form its responses take (rate, volume, pressure?), and how we perceive those responses sound like interesting fields of inquiry which some biologists are investigating. See the refs.
Reply:Thanks for the rating. I don't know how the idea of another universe ties in with the heart, but if it lifts *your* heart it must be good. Report It

Reply:The heart is an amzing organ. Just constantly adapting to changing metabolic demand and providing adequate...but not too much blood circulation to all of the other bodies organs is a full time job. The heart is an organ that never gets a rest like your tongue or eyes. If it were say an auxillary organ to the immune system for example, we'd likely see specific changes in lymph nodes sizes arround the heart which doesnt occur.
Reply:It is classed as doing only one function because we can only see it performing one function. We can remove a persons heart and replace it with a machine to pump blood around the body with no noticable side effects.
